Mexico: e-Commerce will grow 16.5% in 5 years

The e-Commerce is an area of opportunity in Mexico: while European consumers make an average of 29 orders per year, as it is the case of the United Kingdom, and 18 in Germany, the country’s figure is five annual purchases.

However, with an annual growth forecast of 16.5%, Mexico is one of the countries where e-Commerce aims to change the patterns of the traditional commerce, being credit cards and cash on delivery the preferred methods to pay the amount of the orders.

As reveals the study “Shop the World” conducted by DHL in twenty countries, the Mexican customer “tolerates” on average waiting until 7.3 days for the arrival of the order, against to the overall average of 6.5 days. In terms of percentage of returns, the figure is also lower locally – while 14.5% of the Mexican customers choose to return the product, the global level reaches 27.5%.

The mainly reasons for product returns are related to the order status, differences between the good described on the website or catalogue and the received one and the arrival of the wrong product.

Domestic shipping is the preferred by Mexicans. Only 37.3% of the respondents have made cross-border purchases, being the United States and China the most important markets.
