Frequently Asked Questions

General

What type of businesses do PPRO work with?

We’re proud to support PSPs as well as enterprise merchants to access all the local payment methods that matter, to help access new consumers and grow their target markets.

We also work with ISOs (Independent Sales Organisations) and ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) to help their customers build once, and scale continuously.

Which industries does PPRO support?

We work with PSPs and merchants serving a wide range of industries, including but not limited to:

  • Gaming
  • Travel
  • Retail
  • Subscription-based businesses
  • Marketplaces
  • Financial services
  • Education
  • Restaurants and quick service
  • Healthcare

If you’d like to find out more about any of these industries, or one not mentioned here, get in touch.

Why should we work with PPRO rather than going direct?

With PPRO, you only build once, you only contract once, and you scale continuously. You don’t have to build separate integrations and negotiate contracts for every payment method you want to offer to your customers. We connect you to a world of local payments.

How do we integrate PPRO’s solution?

Experience the power of our payments platform through one integration with our robust, secure and developer-friendly RESTful API.

Fast and simple to integrate, with comprehensive documentation and hands-on support, you can get it up and running in no time. Get started today with our Developer Hub.

Getting started

Can I set up a test account?

When you start with PPRO services, we provide you with a test account that is connected to all our available payment methods regardless of whether you have contracted with them or not. This allows you to test transaction parameters and the general flow of the payment method. More details here on our Developer Hub.

Are there any additional approval processes for the merchant activation with the schemes once the merchant is onboarded via PPRO?

Once a merchant is onboarded with PPRO and activated with a scheme you are good to start transacting with the activated payment method. Some schemes may reserve the right to have specific approval for certain industries or jurisdictions however this is not common.

Is there room for customisation of the checkout experience?

Choose from our flexible and fully customisable integration options, Direct API, Hosted Payment Pages and Drop in Checkout.  More details on our Developer Hub.

Managing your account

As a PSP, how do I add a merchant?

We offer different ways of onboarding merchants:

  • A Self Service Business Portal (SSPB) where you login and submit merchant information online. PPRO will then review the details of your merchant as part of its Know Your Customer (KYC) process. Once completed you will receive an email from PPRO confirming your merchant activation and including the Merchant Contract ID (MID) necessary to send transactions to PPRO on behalf of this merchant.
  • For low-risk categories, our Boarding API enables the boarding process to be automated if there is a need to activate a large number of merchants on a regular basis. When a merchant is boarded, PPRO will send you a webhook that you will query and read the response that includes the merchant contract ID and other relevant details. To check whether you qualify for access to the Boarding API, please contact your account manager.
How do I add a new local payment method to my offering?

Get started by discussing the payment method capabilities and pricing with your account manager. Once an agreement is signed, you will receive instructions from our Payment Services Support team on the exact process and next steps to add your new LPM to your account, or to your merchants, via our team directly, via our API or portal. They’ll guide you through the entire process and the appropriate onboarding formats, step by step.

Local Payment Methods

Which payment methods does PPRO offer?

We offer all the local payment methods your customers care about. Check out our full range in our Local Payments listing here and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Can I request any payment methods you don’t currently offer?

We’re always assessing the market to determine which payment methods consumers prefer to use, and we enrich our offering accordingly. If you have questions about a payment method we don’t currently offer, drop us a line because it might be on our roadmap.

Contact us here.

How can I find out what the most relevant payment method is for my customer in a certain market?

We have a deep understanding of what influences payment method choice: consumer behaviours, market infrastructure, and local processes and requirements. We don’t just set you up with access to single payment methods but support you to identify and access payment methods that match your customers’ needs. We also share our insights on the best payment methods to help you access new customers through regularly published reports and insights.

Check out our Insights pages and Country Reports for more information, or get in touch and we’re happy to share more information on how your consumers prefer to pay in certain markets.

What’s the difference between an LPM and an APM?

Our industry is rife with jargon and you’ll often see the terms LPMs (Local Payment Methods) and APMs (Alternative Payment Methods) used interchangeably.

However we believe categorising Local Payment Methods as ‘Alternative’ is outdated and does them an injustice. In some of the biggest e-commerce markets globally, like Germany, Brazil and India, the no1 way to pay is through LPMs, they are not the alternative, they are customers’ preferred payment methods.

PPRO on my bank statement

Why am I seeing PPRO on my bank statement?

PPRO is a payments platform used by various businesses in different industries to help merchants accept different types of payment, from cards, to wallets to BNPL. Depending on how we’re set up with the merchant, our name will sometimes show on peoples’ bank statements when they’ve bought something because we’re helping the merchant process the payment. We work in the background and don’t have any direct contact or relationship with shoppers.

How do I get a refund?

If you need a refund from the shop, site or service that you bought something from, then you have to contact that company or seller. Even if you’ve seen PPRO’s name on your bank statement, we don’t have the authority to stop or refund a payment without authorisation from the merchant. And we’re not able to act on your behalf, so please get in touch with the merchant directly. Or contact your bank if you think the payment was fraudulent.

LATAM

What is a Merchant of Record and how does it work?

A Merchant of Record (MoR) is the legal entity responsible for processing payments. When you partner with us in Latin America, we handle critical aspects such as local payment collection, tax filings, compliance, and currency conversions, which simplifies the payment process for you.

This is especially important in Latin America, where regulatory environments and payment preferences can vary significantly across countries. By acting as the MoR, we support you to enter these markets seamlessly, increasing your authorisation rates, and offering a localised payment experience for your customers.

Which payment methods does PPRO support in Latin America?

To grow in the world’s largest e-commerce markets, you need to act local. PPRO connects you to all the local payment methods your customers care about in one place, including local cards e.g. Hipercard, Elo, Carnet, bank transfer and instant payments e.g Pix, cash based payments e.g. Boleto, OxxoPay, and digital wallets from across the LATAM region. For more info visit our LPM catalogue here.

What customer support does PPRO provide in LATAM?

We know your business never sleeps, that’s why our technical teams are available 24 /7  and we offer multilingual customer support from 9-6pm daily in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

What’s more, your dedicated relationship manager will be on hand to support technical integration, ongoing management and optimisation of your account.
