Brazil Increases E-Commerce Revenues

In the first half of 2015, Brazil has seen an increase in e-Commerce revenues of 16%, compared with the same period in 2014. This brings the total to R$18.6 billion.

The average purchase price also increased to R$377, up 13%.

The market figures were produced by WebShoppers. Their latest research report looked at Brazilian e-Commerce in terms of trends, behavioural changes, customer habits and the development of e-Commerce.

The report highlighted the e-Commerce areas which are seeing the most rapid growth. Appliances and telephony (which includes mobile phones) came out on top, with growth rates of 41% and 53% respectively. One of the areas which experienced the most growth was fashion and accessories, which saw a decline of around 8%.

The report also revealed that stores are moving away from online instalment payments. The key figures show that over 17 million people made at least one online purchase in the first half of the year and of those, well over half made payments in one transaction. And whereas previously, nearly 8% of all transactions were made up from three instalments, now, in the first half of 2015, less than 4% of payments involve instalments.

As for the profile of the online buyers, the report showed that most are aged between 25 and 34. This group make up 25% of all users. The next group are aged between 12 and 19 years, and make-up 19% of buyers, and the 35 to 44 age group accounts for 19%. Mining further down into the report, shows that of online buyers, their average household income rose from R$4,210 to R$4,650.

In terms of regions, the South and North East were the busiest in terms of e-Commerce sales. The South increased from 12.1% to 13.07% and the North East from 11.9% to 12.9%.
