The stratospheric growth in Polish online retail is reliant on two things. Firstly, a very well developed infrastructure that allows the easy transportation of goods, and secondly cheap labour. Wages in Poland are still very competitive compared to other countries in Western and Central Europe.

The Polish logistics company InPost saw its revenue massively expand at the beginning of 2021 as the trend in online shopping continued. However, a competitor, AliExpress is considering installing 8,000 parcel lockers in the country, which could affect InPost’s business.

Poland’s economy dropped by 2.7% in 2020 but is forecast to grow by 3.5% in 2021 and 4.5% in 2022 according to the IMF. Inflation also rose in 2020 by 3.4% and is expected to rise by 3.2% in 2021 and by 2.5% in 2022.
