MasterCard LOCAL

Mastercard LocMastercard LOCAL is a localized version of the international credit card scheme.
The Mastercard LOCAL cards are limited in use, as they are restricted to local purchases and cannot be used cross-border. Even if those cards are issued by Mastercard and may seem like standard credit cards, they can only be used in the country in which they are issued and can only be used to make payments in that country’s currency.
Localized credit cards (whether they are issued by an international brand like VISA, Mastercard or American Express or a local card scheme) dominate the card market in Latin America. Brazil, for example, currently has only 30% of cards enabled for international purchases, and those are usually high-end cards with elevated credit limits and authorization rates.
Retailers who don’t accept local cards in Latin America risk missing out on a majority of the market.
