Discover how the Irish like to shop and pay online
Between 2022 and 2025, the value of the e-commerce market in Ireland is expected to grow from US$8 billion to US$12 billion [1]. The market is growing for several reasons: young people, under 35, shop online at least once a week; the amount the Irish spend online is 26% higher than the EU average [2]; and the Irish are more likely than most to shop cross border [1].
Ninety-five percent of Irish adults have a bank account and over 90% have Internet access. Along with a willingness to shop cross border and try new merchants, this makes Ireland an attractive market for new e-commerce entrants. But with digital payments more than doubling each year, support for Irish alternative payment methods is a must [3].
